The project and its finances will be managed by PML’s research support and financial units alongside a number of other NERC projects. The Plymouth Marine Laboratory is a NERC collaborative research centre with 118 scientific staff which benefits from the considerable training and career development opportunities offered by the laboratory. The PI will invest 5 man/months in the management and coordination of the project, in addition to his research time. Additional support would be provided by the GLOBEC International Project Office, based at PML, as QUEST-Fish would be an important output of GLOBEC’s Integration and Synthesis phase.
The scientific coordination of QUEST-Fish will be carried out by the PI, the leaders and co-leaders of the four modules, and a group of selected international experts that would provide steering and networking with relevant work conducted elsewhere. The core management group (PI and Module leaders, or Executive Committee) will meet every 6 months. The extended scientific advisory group (SAG) will meet at least twice a year, in particular at the onset of QUEST-Fish, and once results are available.
The role of the SAG will specifically be:
- to assist QUEST-Fish researchers in working through the assumptions, methodologies and hypotheses of the project.
- to place QUEST-Fish in context by increasing synergies and interactions with relevant work conducted elsewhere.
